THE TRUE NATURE OF THAT CUTE BABY

"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." Psalms 51:5

When the world sin appears in the singular, it usually denotes the sin nature of humanity. The sin nature which everyone possesses, influences us to sin and is the source of lust. It negatively affects people's mind,(Romans 1:28 - And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them).

The sin nature is partially responsibility for blinding people’s thoughts and understanding, so that they cannot perceive spiritual things (1 Corinthians 2:14 - But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned).

Although our sin nature continues to operate within us, it was judged when Christ died >(Romans 6:6,7 - Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
For he that is dead is freed from sin... and Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me).

Until Christ returns, we must live in the strength of the new man, to overcome the sinful desires arising from the sin nature. We cannot eradicate our sin nature, but we can allow the Holy Spirit [to dwell] in us so that we do not give in to temptation.
See Genesis 6:5 on the results of sin on the mind/heart.

If you're interested in learning more from the Holy Scripture that gives us hope, read Romans Chapters 3 and 5.

PATRIOTISM OF ANOTHER ORDER (Part 1)

“I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free.” Free to do whatever I please? Free from religious persecution? Exactly what freedoms are afforded to me?

Well this isn’t going to be an appeal for the separation of church and state.

This is about obeying the laws as an act of patriotism or loyalty and an act of love. How deep does your pride go? How much do you love your country? Do you love it enough to obey its laws? Do you love it enough to follow those laws even when you don’t want to, when everyone else is breaking them or when transgressing them would be easiest thing to do?

Speeding is a problem for me. A sin if you will. My problem does not consume me continually because we don’t have a car, but when we rent or borrow a vehicle I come face to face with my sin problem. I don’t like speed limits. They limit my ability to sin (speed) freely.

Have you ever tried driving on a normal day at 55 mph or worse yet, 35 mph? I did. Yesterday I decided to obey all the speed limits for 1 day.

Here are my observations:

• I’ve been so accustomed to speeding for so long that it feels natural, exhilarating even
• The other drivers became irritated with me for obeying the law because it kept them from breaking it
• They rode my bumper to force me to sin (speed)
• I was not even aware of what the speed limit was on certain roads
• I didn’t even notice when I far exceeded the speed limit, until I heard sirens or saw a police cruiser which caused me to look at the speedometer
• None of the above would have been an excuse if I’d been pulled over

At the end of the day, maintaining a lawful speed requires a conscious effort (mind) and physical action (will) and cannot be just something that I tell myself I’m going to do.

My actions must be based on principle, not on what everyone else is doing. If I’m not aware of the law, it does not mean that I’m exempt from obeying it. Fear of punishment is not a pleasant motivator for obedience.

Obedience must be based on respect and love for the governing entity and the belief that its laws are there for my good….

WHAT IS ATHEISM

Definition:

Atheism is the religion* of making one's self God. Atheists deny the Sovereign God and place themselves in the position of God. They trust in what they believe to be inherent power within themselves, therefore are needless of anything greater.

When Atheists get sick and they are powerless to help themselves or when they face the death of a loved one, then reality sets in.

For those of you who have family or friends who claim to be Atheists, this is a good place to start. Lovingly show them that there are things that just would not happen in and of themselves and without a "higher power."

*Atheists may claim not to be religious, but the belief that you are your own god is a religion in itself.

OBEDIENT SACRIFICE OR SINCERE IN DISOBEDIENCE

One Thusday, two co-workers were leaving work together and planned to get together on the weekend for lunch. The first (Bob) suggested Friday after work. "That's the Sabbath", the second (Jim) replied.

Jim: "Can we meet on Sunday?"

Bob: "That's my sabbath"

These two co-workers had known each other for a couple years, but never really explored the basis of each other's faith.

Jim asked: "Do you love the Lord?"

Bob: "Of course I do!"

Jim: "Do you believe that the scriptures are God's inspired word?"

Bob: "Without a Doubt!"

Jim: "Then let the Holy Spirit teach you through His word"

Jim pulled out a bible that he always carried with him and silently offered a pray to God for boldness, guidance and wisdom as he opened the scriptures to his co-worker.

Jim opened the scriptures so Bob could follow along and read from Exodus 20:8-11, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it."

Then he turned to Genesis 1:1 which read, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth," and read until Chapter 2:1-3, "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made", where the Sabbath was first instituted. He emphasized that it was the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, not the Sabbath of the Israelites, not my Sabbath and not your Sabbath.

Jim took him to Mark 2:27 to show him who the Lord's Sabbath was made for.

Jim: "Why did the Lord say, "Remember the Sabbath" " in Exodus 20?

Noticing the puzzled look on Bob's face, Jim went back to Exodus 16: 11-31 where the Lord proved (tested) the children of Israel in regard to the Sabbath.

Seeing the excitement and interest on Bob's face, Jim forged on in faith to Exodus 31:16-18, then to Revelation 14:6,7. He then turned to Matthew 24:14-20 in the New Testiment and closed out with Isaiah 66:22,23 and 58:13,14 in the Old Testiment.

Praise God!!! Bob cried out, his voice trembling with excitement and emotion.

There was silence for a moment, before Bob continued, "Sunday still open?"

Jim replied with a smile, "Always has been"

As they got up to leave, Jim asked if he could offer a word of prayer for Bob, then two friends left work together.
